Pythagore (en grec ancien : Πυθαγόρας / Puthagóras) est un philosophe présocratique qui serait né aux environs de 580 av. J.-C. à Samos, une île du sud-est de la mer Égée ; on situe sa mort vers 495 av. J.-C., à l'âge de 85 ans. Il a introduit la notion de métempsycose dans le monde grec ; son nom est aussi lié aux mathématiques, à la philosophie des nombres ainsi qu'à la notion d'harmonie céleste — même si l'approfondissement de ces notions est plutôt dû à ses disciples et épigones, ceux que l'on appelle les pythagoriciens.
