Zoroaster
Zarathustra (avestisch Zaraθuštra Zarathuschtra, persisch زَردُشت, DMG Zardošt, ‚Zardoscht‘), auch Zoroaster (altgriechisch Ζωροάστρης Zōroástrēs), genannt auch Zarathustra Spitama, war ein persischer Priester (Zaotar) und Philosoph. Er lehrte in einer nordostiranischen Sprache, die später nach dem Avesta als Avestisch bekannt wurde, und verhalf dem nach ihm benannten Zoroastrismus zum späteren Durchbruch als persisch-medische beziehungsweise iranische Religion, weshalb er beispielsweise auch „Gründer des Zoroastrismus“, „Religionsstifter“ oder „Reformator“ genannt wird. Die heutigen Anhänger des Zoroastrismus werden Zoroastrier oder Zarathustrier genannt.
