Abū Yūsuf Yaʿqūb ibn Isḥāq al-Kindī, in arabo ﺍﺑﻮ ﻳﻮﺳﻒ يعقوب بن اسحاق الكندي? (nome latinizzato Alchindus; 801 circa – 873), è stato un musicista, astrologo, matematico, filosofo, fisico, astronomo e scienziato arabo. Al-Kindi fu il primo dei filosofi peripatetici musulmani ed è famoso per aver introdotto la filosofia greca nel mondo arabo. Il contatto con i "filosofi dell'antichità" (così erano conosciuti i filosofi greci dagli studiosi musulmani), e in particolare Aristotele, ebbe un profondo effetto sul proprio sviluppo intellettuale, portandolo a scrivere numerosi trattati originali su una varietà di soggetti, dalla metafisica all'etica, dalla matematica alla farmacologia e all'astrologia, ma non all'alchimia che era dal filosofo arabo considerata una cialtroneria.
