Yui Hasegawa (長谷川 唯, Hasegawa Yui; IPA: [haseɡaɰa jɯ.i]; born January 29, 1997) is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Women's Super League club Manchester City and captains the Japan national team. Considered as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, she has the versatility to operate across the midfield in both offensive and defensive positions. Born in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture and brought up in Toda, Saitama, Hasegawa played youth football with Tokyo Verdy Beleza before she began her career with the senior team in 2013.
