Brian David Josephson (born 4 January 1940) is a Welsh theoretical physicist and an emeritus professor of physics at Cambridge University. Best known for his pioneering work on superconductivity and quantum tunnelling, he shared the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physics with Leo Esaki and Ivar Giaever for his discovery of the Josephson effect, made in 1962 when he was a 22 year-old Ph.D. student at Cambridge. Josephson has spent his academic career as a member of the Theory of Condensed Matter group at Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory. He has been a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge since 1962, and served as Professor of Physics from 1974 until 2007. Read more on Wikipedia
