Edward James Hughes, conosciuto come Ted Hughes (Mytholmroyd, 17 agosto 1930 – Londra, 28 ottobre 1998), è stato un poeta e scrittore britannico. Considerato uno dei migliori poeti della sua generazione, Hughes fu Poet Laureate in Inghilterra dal 1984 fino alla sua morte nel 1998. Nota e tragica la storia del suo matrimonio con la poetessa statunitense Sylvia Plath, durato dal 1956 fino al suicidio di lei nel 1963, per il quale il poeta subì molte accuse, in quanto ritenuto responsabile successivamente anche di quello della donna con cui lui aveva una relazione extraconiugale, Assia Wevill.
