James Earl Carter Jr., detto Jimmy (Plains, 1º ottobre 1924 – Plains, 29 dicembre 2024), è stato un politico e filantropo statunitense, 39º presidente degli Stati Uniti d'America dal 1977 al 1981. Da 1971 al 1975 fu governatore della Georgia. Vinse quindi la nomination democratica per le elezioni presidenziali del 1976, dove da outsider sconfisse il presidente repubblicano in carica, Gerald Ford.
