Jacques Maritain (Parigi, 18 novembre 1882 – Tolosa, 28 aprile 1973) è stato un filosofo, teologo e pedagogista francese. Prolifico autore, Maritain scrisse oltre sessanta opere ed è generalmente considerato come uno dei massimi esponenti del neotomismo del XX secolo, nonché uno tra i più grandi pensatori cattolici del Novecento. Il suo contributo è stato influente nello sviluppo e nella stesura della Dichiarazione universale dei diritti umani del 1948. Docente di filosofia presso l'Università di Princeton dal 1948 al 1960, insegnò anche presso il Pontificio Istituto di Studi Medievali di Toronto, la Columbia University, l’Università di Chicago e l'Università di Notre Dame.
