Alan Cooper (San Francisco, 3 giugno 1952) è un informatico e progettista statunitense, noto per aver contribuito allo sviluppo di Visual Basic, diffuso linguaggio di programmazione ad eventi che deriva da uno dei suoi programmi, chiamato Tripod. Esperto di interaction design, è stato soprannominato per tale motivo "il padre di Visual Basic", sebbene gran parte del lavoro su Visual Basic venne svolto in realtà dal gruppo di sviluppo interno di Microsoft. Questo appellativo fu utilizzato la prima volta da Mitchell Waite nella prefazione del suo libro "Visual Basic How-To".
