Dirige una empresa de diseño de interacción y escribe libros acerca de cómo crear software.​ Trabajó para Microsoft y es el diseñador del lenguaje de programación Visual Basic.​ La primera creación original de Cooper fue "Tripod", y luego "Ruby".
