Simone Martini, parfois aussi appelé Simone Senese ou Simone Memmi, né en 1284 à Sienne, et mort à Avignon le 1 août 1344, est un peintre et enlumineur siennois, contemporain d'Ambrogio Lorenzetti et élève de Duccio, qui utilise les techniques de la fresque et de la tempera sur bois. Son œuvre exerce une influence considérable sur le gothique international. Considéré comme l'un des maîtres de l'école siennoise et certainement l'un des artistes les plus grands et les plus influents du XIVe siècle italien, il est le seul capable de concurrencer Giotto.
