Benjamin Thompson, comte (de) Rumford, né le 26 mars 1753 à Woburn dans la province de la Baie-du-Massachusetts (Treize Colonies) et mort à Paris le 21 août 1814 durant la Première Restauration, est un physicien et chimiste, sujet britannique connu pour ses importants travaux scientifiques sur la "caminologie" (chauffage par cheminée) et sa théorie mécanique de la chaleur.
