Agis III
Ágis III (em grego: Ἄγις) foi rei da cidade-Estado grega de Esparta de 338 a.C. até 331 a.C. ano da sua morte. Pertenceu à Dinastia Euripôntida. Ágis era filho de Arquídamo III e morreu sem filhos, na batalha de Megalópolis contra Antípatro, sendo sucedido por seu irmão Eudâmidas I. Após a derrota, Antípatro exigiu que Esparta enviasse cinquenta jovens rapazes como reféns, mas o éforo Etéocles respondeu que não poderia enviar os jovens, porque eles não seriam educados com disciplina, e não poderiam se tornar cidadãos, oferecendo, em vez disso, o dobro em homens idosos ou mulheres. Antípatro respondeu com ameaças se não recebesse os jovens, ao que os espartanos responderam: Se as ordens que você impõe sobre nós são mais duras que a morte, nós achamos mais fácil morrer.
