Prince George of Greece and Denmark (Greek: Γεώργιος, romanized: Geórgios; 24 June 1869 – 25 November 1957) was the second son and child of George I of Greece and Olga Konstantinovna of Russia, and is remembered chiefly for having once saved the life of his cousin the future Emperor of Russia, Nicholas II in 1891 during their visit to Japan together. He served as high commissioner of the Cretan State during its transition towards independence from Ottoman rule and union with Greece, under the title the Prince of Candia. Read more on Wikipedia

Prince George of Greece and Denmark was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 27 April 1869. He was the second son of King George I of Greece and his wife, Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna of Russia. His maternal grandparents were Emperor Alexander II of Russia and Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine. He was a nephew of Tsar Alexander III of Russia and King George I of the Hellenes, and thus a first cousin of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia.
