Pope Lando was most famous for his role in the papal election of 963. He was elected as pope after the death of Pope John XII, who had been accused of sexual misconduct with the daughter of a Roman senator. Lando's election was opposed by the Roman aristocracy, who wanted to replace him with their own candidate. Lando was able to defend his position with the help of Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor.
