Michael the Syrian, also known as Michael the Great (Syriac: ܡܝܟܐܝܠ ܪܒܐ, romanized: Mīkā'ēl Rabā; 1126–7 November 1199), was the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch from 1166 until his death in 1199. He is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of the Syriac Orthodox Church, remembered both as a saint and as a historian. His monumental Chronicle is the largest surviving Syriac historical work, covering world history from Creation until his own time. Modern scholars describe it as "undoubtedly the greatest of all Syriac chronicles” and a cornerstone of medieval historiography. Read more on Wikipedia
