Samuel Joel (Zero) Mostel (Brooklyn, 28 februari 1915 - Philadelphia, 8 september 1977) was een Amerikaanse toneel- en filmacteur, bekend om zijn portrettering van komische karakterrollen zoals Tevye (spreek uit: 'Tevje' - hoofdfiguur van Sholom Aleichem) in het toneelstuk Fiddler on the Roof, Pseudolus (op toneel en het witte doek) in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, en Max Bialystock (een egoïstische en hebzuchtige man, belust op geld) in de originele filmversie van The Producers (1968). In de jaren 50 (van de twintigste eeuw) stond hij op de Zwarte lijst van Hollywood, ook zijn getuigenverklaring voor het House Committee on Un-American Activities kwam breeduit in de pers. Hij is winnaar van een Tony Award en Obie Award (sinds 1956 uitgereikt door The Village, een New Yorks weekblad voor theaterartiesten en -groepen aan hen die off-Broadway spelen).
