Wilfrid

Wilfrid(us) of Walfridus van York (oorspronkelijke spelling Wilfrith) (rond 634 - 24 april 709) was een Engelse bisschop en heilige. Wilfrid werd geboren in een voorname familie in Northumbria, tegenwoordig Noordwest-Engeland. Hij verliet op jeugdige leeftijd het ouderlijk huis om in Lindisfarne, Canterbury, Gallië en in Rome te studeren; tegen 660 keerde hij terug naar Northumbria, waar hij abt werd van het nieuw opgerichte klooster in Ripon.
