Flavio Placido Valentiniano, meglio noto come Valentiniano III (in latino Flavius Placidus Valentinianus; Ravenna, 2 luglio 419 – Roma, 16 marzo 455), è stato un imperatore romano dal 425 fino alla sua morte. Come imperatore appartenente alla dinastia teodosiana e a quella valentiniana, Valentiniano III fu il simbolo dell'unità dell'impero, la figura attorno alla quale si coagula la lealtà dei sudditi; in realtà, però, il potere fu esercitato da Flavio Ezio, il magister militum (comandante in capo dell'esercito), al quale va ascritta la politica che tenne unito l'impero malgrado le forze centrifughe che lo sconquassavano.
