John Jay

John Jay (New York, 12 dicembre 1745 – Bedford, 17 maggio 1829) è stato un politico, diplomatico e rivoluzionario statunitense. È stato uno dei padri fondatori degli Stati Uniti, presidente del Congresso continentale nel biennio 1778-1779 e, dal 1789 al 1795, presidente della Corte suprema degli Stati Uniti. Durante e dopo la guerra d'indipendenza americana fu ambasciatore in Spagna e Francia, gettando le basi per una politica estera statunitense ed ottenendo delle condizioni favorevoli per la pace con l'Impero britannico (il trattato di Jay) e la Francia.
