Actif dès les années 1950, Shorter fait aujourd’hui figure de légende dans le domaine du jazz et du jazz fusion, non seulement en tant que musicien mais aussi en tant que compositeur. En parallèle à sa carrière solo il a été un membre essentiel des Jazz Messengers, du second quintet de Miles Davis et le cofondateur de Weather Report .
