Samuel de Champlain, né vraisemblablement à Brouage (royaume de France) entre 1567 et 1574 (peut-être baptisé le 13 août 1574 à La Rochelle au temple Saint-Yon) et mort à Québec en N-F(Nouvelle-France) 25 décembre 1635, est un colonisateur, navigateur, cartographe, soldat, explorateur, ethnologue, géographe, commandant et auteur de récits de voyage français. Il fonde la ville de Québec le 3 juillet 1608. Après une formation de navigateur en Saintonge (vers 1586-1594), il s'enrôle comme soldat en Bretagne (1595-1598), puis devient explorateur des colonies espagnoles d'Amérique (1599-1601), du fleuve Saint-Laurent (1603) ainsi que de l'Acadie (1604-1607) et de la côte atlantique (entre l'actuel Nouveau-Brunswick et Cap Cod). Il nomme définitivement la Nouvelle-France en l'inscrivant sur la carte de 1607, représentant l'Acadie à partir de La Hève jusqu'au sud du Cap Cod. En savoir plus sur Wikipédia
