Saint Joseph

Joseph (יוֹסֵף (Yosef) en hébreu, ce qui signifie « il ajoutera » ; Ἰωσήφ (Iôséph) en grec), connu sous le nom de saint Joseph par les catholiques et les orthodoxes, est un personnage du Nouveau Testament mentionné pour la première fois dans les Évangiles selon Matthieu et selon Luc. Joseph apparaît aussi dans un texte plus tardif, le Protévangile de Jacques, composé au milieu du IIe siècle ; cette version apocryphe est incompatible par certains aspects avec celle des évangiles canoniques. D'après Matthieu et Luc, puis selon les auteurs chrétiens et notamment les Pères de l'Église, Joseph serait un lointain descendant d'Abraham et du roi David (Mt 1,1-17) de la tribu de Juda.
