Kit Carson (né Christopher Houston Carson le 24 décembre 1809 dans le comté de Madison au Kentucky et mort le 23 mai 1868 à Fort Lyon dans le Colorado) est un général et un pionnier de la conquête de l'Ouest américain. Orphelin de père à 7 ans, il travaille à la ferme familiale puis dans une sellerie, avant qu'attiré par les récits des trappeurs, il ne parte, à 16 ans, découvrir le continent. La connaissance qu'il acquiert de l'Ouest sauvage l'amène à servir de guide à l'explorateur John Charles Frémont.
