John Gilbert « Jack » Layton (Montréal, 18 juillet 1950 – Toronto, 22 août 2011) est un homme politique canadien. Il dirigeait le Nouveau Parti démocratique du Canada (NPD) de 2003 à sa mort et il était chef de l'opposition officielle à la Chambre des communes du Canada du 2 mai 2011 à sa mort. Fils de Robert Layton, et de Doris Steeves, une femme réservée descendante d'un père de la Confédération, Jack grandit à Hudson (Québec) et termine ses études à Toronto (Ontario), où il s'installe. Quand il arrive sur la scène publique municipale de Toronto comme échevin et conseiller municipal, pendant les années 1980 et 1990, il est une des voix de gauche les plus fortes, aux conseils municipal et métropolitain de la ville.
