Gabrielle Roy, née le 22 mars 1909 à Saint-Boniface (Manitoba) et morte le 13 juillet 1983 à Québec, est une romancière canadienne-française. Institutrice de formation reconvertie en journaliste, elle s'est affirmée comme l'une des plus importantes figures de la littérature canadienne. En 1945, elle connaît un succès fulgurant après la publication de Bonheur d'occasion, un roman qui brosse le portrait saisissant des classes populaires montréalaises durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Inspiré par les reportages de Gabrielle Roy dans le quartier ouvrier de Saint-Henri, ce roman est considéré comme le premier roman urbain de la littérature québécoise, qu'il contribue à faire rayonner internationalement par le biais d'une quinzaine de traductions.
