Basile Ier, dit Basile le Grand, ou Basile le Macédonien (en grec : Βασίλειος ὁ Μακεδών, Basíleios ō Makedṓn), né vers 811 et mort le 29 août 886, est un empereur byzantin ayant régné de 867 à 886. Né dans une famille de paysans du thème de Macédoine, il entra au service d’un parent du césar Bardas. Son habileté au dressage des chevaux le fit remarquer de l’empereur Michel III (r. 842-867) qui se prit d'amitié pour lui et lui fit gravir tous les échelons de la hiérarchie jusqu'à le nommer coempereur ; Basile devait néanmoins usurper le trône de son bienfaiteur.
