Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson (/ˈændɹu ˈd͡ʒæksən/), né le 15 mars 1767 à Waxhaws (en) (Les Carolines) et mort le 8 juin 1845 à Nashville (Tennessee), est un militaire, planteur esclavagiste et homme d'État américain. Il est le 7e président des États-Unis, en fonction du 4 mars 1829 au 4 mars 1837, et le premier issu du Parti démocrate. Il est l'une des figures les plus influentes et controversées de l'histoire américaine. Né dans une famille modeste dans la région des Waxhaws à la limite entre la Caroline du Nord et la Caroline du Sud, il s'est fait un nom en tant que soldat et héros de la Guerre de 1812, notamment pour sa victoire décisive lors de la bataille de La Nouvelle-Orléans.
