Alain Peyrefitte, né le 26 août 1925 à Najac en Aveyron et mort le 27 novembre 1999 à Paris, est un homme politique, diplomate, spécialiste en sciences humaines et politiques, et enfin écrivain français, membre de l’Académie française. Après l'École normale supérieure, il intègre la première promotion de l'ENA, et choisit à sa sortie la carrière diplomatique. Celle-ci le mène en Allemagne de l'Ouest, alors en plein redressement économique, puis en Pologne, où il est nommé consul général au moment où s'affermit l'emprise soviétique.
