Dame Frances Amelia Yates (28 de noviembre de 1899–29 de septiembre de 1981) fue una historiadora inglesa especializada en el Renacimiento que escribió libros sobre la historia del esoterismo occidental. Tras obtener un MA en francés en el University College London, comenzó a publicar sus investigaciones en revistas académicas y libros, centrándose en el teatro del siglo XVI y en la vida del lingüista y lexicógrafo John Florio. En 1941 fue contratada por el Instituto Warburg en Londres y empezó a trabajar en lo que denominó «historia warburguiana», que enfatizaba un enfoque paneuropeo e interdisciplinar de la historiografía. Su publicación más aclamada fue Giordano Bruno y la tradición hermética (1964), en la que destacó el papel del hermetismo en la obra de Bruno y el papel que la magia y el misticismo desempeñaron en el pensamiento renacentista.
