Benjamin Franklin (Boston, 17 de enero de 1706​-Filadelfia, 17 de abril de 1790) fue un político, polímata, científico e inventor estadounidense. Es considerado uno de los padres fundadores de los Estados Unidos.​ Franklin ganó el título de «El Primer Estadounidense» («The First American») por su temprana e infatigable campaña por la unidad colonial, inicialmente como autor y portavoz en Londres para varias colonias.
