Polykarp von Smyrna (altgriechisch Πολύκαρπος ὁ Σμυρναῖος Polýkarpos ho Smyrnaĩos, deutsch ‚Polykarp der Smyrner‘; * um 69; † 155 nach der Frühdatierung oder † 167 nach der Spätdatierung) war eine Führungspersönlichkeit des kleinasiatischen Christentums im 2. Jahrhundert. Aufgrund des ihm zugeschriebenen sehr hohen Lebensalters von 86 Jahren verband er in seiner Biografie die Zeit der Apostel, als deren Schüler er galt, und die Zeit des sich herausbildenden monarchischen Bischofsamtes (Monepiskopat). Polycarp was a bishop and martyr in Smyrna (now İzmir in Turkey) in the 2nd century AD. He is the earliest known Christian martyr, and was a boyhood friend of the Apostle John. He is famous for refusing to deny Christ, even when threatened with death by wild animals in the arena.
