Karl Landsteiner (* 14. Juni 1868 in Baden bei Wien; † 26. Juni 1943 in New York) war ein österreichisch-US-amerikanischer Pathologe, Hämatologe und Serologe, der 1900 das AB0-System der Blutgruppen entdeckte, wofür er 1930 den Nobelpreis für Physiologie oder Medizin erhielt. Zusammen mit Erwin Popper gelang ihm 1908 der experimentelle Nachweis, dass die Poliomyelitis (Kinderlähmung) eine durch Infektion übertragbare Krankheit ist. Mehr auf Wikipedia lesen
