Fabian Lukas Schär (Swiss Standard German: [faˈbi̯aːn ˈʃɛːr]; born 20 December 1991) is a Swiss professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Newcastle United. He is known for his powerful free kicks, long shots and long passes. Beginning his career at his hometown club of Wil, Schär transferred to Basel in 2012, winning the Swiss Super League in all three of his seasons there before his move to TSG Hoffenheim.
